The actor allegedly spread the virus to several other women.
According to Gawker, Sheen's appearance is being billed as a "revealing personal announcement," and while the larger NBC network has not specified what the announcement is about, several reliable news sites have clarified that it is about his HIV status.
TMZ, one of the outlets who broke the story, reports, "Charlie Sheen will reveal to the world that he's HIV positive. Sources connected to NBC's Today tell TMZ... Sheen will sit down with Matt Lauer on Tuesday morning to make the announcement."
While the uncomfirned news is still fresh, infamous tabloid National Enquirer reports that the Anger Management star contracted the virus before spreading it to dozens of women in a "multi-million dollar cover-up."
"It's the culmination of a dogged 18-month investigation that has uncovered how television's one-time highest paid star potentially spread the devastating virus to dozens of unsuspecting women," they wrote. "Sheen, 50, has already begun a regimen of medication meant to counteract the effects of the disease, sources said.
