Northern politicians calls on Buhari to intervene in Saraki’s trial
Political leaders from the north-central have accused
the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice
Danlami Umar, of abusing the legal system in the
country
– The group said Justice Umar’s pronouncement
established clearly that double standard is reigning
supreme in the trial of Saraki
– It describes Saraki as one the pillars of the APC in the
North central
Some political leaders in the north-central zone have
called on President Muhammadu Buhari to halt the
alleged injustice being meted out to Senate president,
Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The group, according to Vanguard, alleged that Saraki’s
trial was an abuse of the legal system in the country by
the chairman of the CCT, Justice Danlami Umar.
It rejected the CCT’s judgment of March 24, 2016 which
stated that there is no rule that said that an individual
cannot be charged years after committing an offence,
among others.
The spokesman of the group, Senator Ahmed Mohammed
called President Buhari to intervene in the issue on the
ground that Saraki was one the pillars of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in the north-central.
He said: We have refrained from speaking about the
trial of the President of the Senate Dr Bukola Saraki
before the Code of Conduct Tribunal because of our
belief that it was an issue that would stand the test of
truth, equity and justice.
“But it has become significant to raise our voice at this
juncture not only for posterity, but because of the
pronouncement of Justice Danladi Umar which
established clearly that double standard is reigning
supreme.”
Meanwhile, the continued trial of the Senate president,
Bukola Saraki, at the code of conduct tribunal (CCT) has
reportedly torn the All Progressives Congress (APC)
apart, Premium Times reports.
The party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Timi
Frank, in a statement issued on March 25, described the
trial of Saraki as “worrisome.”
He said there were blemishes in the processes leading to
his arraignment, noting that it was dangerous for the
leadership of the party to sit down and watch the
Senate president “swim or sink in his trial.”
